Faro Cathedral (Se de Faro)
Church, Algarve News
Faro's cathedral stands within the old walled town, on a site that has been used for religious worship since at least the Moorish period. The current building combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements, reflecting centuries of rebuilding after earthquake damage. The interior contains gilded altarpieces, azulejo tiles, and a notable Baroque organ. The bell tower offers views across the old town rooftops and the Ria Formosa lagoon. The Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Algarve and remains an active parish church. Entry to the main nave is free; the tower and museum areas have a small charge.
