Igreja de Santo Antonio, Lagos
Church, Algarve News
The Church of Santo Antonio in Lagos contains one of the most extravagant gilded Baroque interiors in the Algarve. Every surface of the small church is covered in carved and gilded woodwork (talha dourada), azulejo tiles, and painted panels depicting the life of St Anthony. The church was damaged in the 1755 earthquake and subsequently restored. It is accessed through the adjacent municipal museum, which houses archaeological and ethnographic collections. The combination of the church interior and museum makes this one of the best cultural visits in the western Algarve. Entry is ticketed at a modest price.
