Milreu Roman Ruins
Museum, Algarve News
The Roman villa and temple complex at Milreu, near Estoi north of Faro, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Algarve. The villa dates from the first to fourth centuries AD and includes well-preserved mosaic floors depicting marine life, the remains of thermal baths, and a temple that was later converted into a Christian church. The site illustrates the wealth and sophistication of Roman provincial life in southern Lusitania. The mosaics, particularly the fish designs in the bath complex, are of high quality. The site is managed by the Direcao Regional de Cultura and has a small visitor centre. Entry is inexpensive.
