Housed in the former Convent of Nossa Senhora da Assuncao in Faro's old town, the municipal museum displays archaeological collections spanning Roman mosaics, Moorish ceramics, and medieval religious art. The convent cloister is one of the finest Renaissance spaces in the Algarve. Highlights include a large Roman mosaic floor recovered from Milreu and a collection of Moorish oil lamps. The museum provides a comprehensive overview of the region's history from prehistory to the modern era. Admission is inexpensive. The building itself, with its peaceful cloister garden, is worth the visit regardless of the collections.
