Avenida da Republica, Faro
Street guide, Algarve News
Avenida da Republica is the main waterfront boulevard in Faro, running along the northern edge of the Ria Formosa lagoon. The avenue is lined with palm trees and benches, and provides the principal promenade for residents and visitors. On one side, the marina and harbour give views across the lagoon to the barrier islands. On the other, a row of cafes, restaurants, and commercial buildings face the water. The Arco da Vila, the archway entrance to the old walled town, opens off the southern end of the avenue. Ferry services to the beach islands of Barreta and Farol depart from the marina nearby. The avenue is the social centre of Faro, particularly in the evenings when residents stroll along the waterfront.
