Rua da Liberdade, Tavira
Street guide, Algarve News
Rua da Liberdade is one of the main streets through Tavira's historic centre, connecting the Praca da Republica to the riverside area near the Roman bridge. The street is lined with traditional houses, many featuring the distinctive four-sided hipped roofs (telhados de tesoura) that are characteristic of Tavira's architecture. Small shops, cafes, and guesthouses occupy the ground floors. The street has a quiet, elegant character that reflects Tavira's reputation as the most refined town in the Algarve. Several of the buildings have been carefully restored, preserving their historic facades while updating interiors for modern use.
