Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, Portimao
Street guide, Algarve News
Avenida Infante Dom Henrique runs along the Arade riverfront in Portimao, connecting the town centre to the waterfront area where sardine restaurants and fish stalls draw visitors. The avenue is named after Prince Henry the Navigator (Infante Dom Henrique) and provides a pleasant waterside walk. The riverside restaurants on and near this avenue serve grilled sardines and fresh fish, and the annual Sardine Festival in August is centred on this area. The Portimao Museum, housed in a former fish canning factory, is accessed from the avenue. The waterfront has been improved with new paving, seating, and lighting in recent years.
