Estrada de Benagil
Street guide, Algarve News
The road to Benagil branches off the main coastal road between Lagoa and Carvoeiro, descending through a narrow valley to the small cove that has become one of the most visited spots in the Algarve. Benagil beach is tiny but its fame rests on the sea cave (Algar de Benagil) whose collapsed roof creates a cathedral-like interior lit by a circular skylight. The road is narrow and parking is extremely limited, causing significant congestion in summer. Tour boats, kayaks, and paddleboards depart from the beach to visit the cave. The estrada itself is unremarkable, but it has become one of the most-trafficked minor roads in the Algarve due to the cave's global fame, amplified by social media.
