IC4 (Itinerario Complementar 4)
Street guide, Algarve News
The IC4 is a secondary trunk road connecting Faro northward to the Alentejo region and ultimately to Lisbon via the A2 motorway. The road leaves the Algarve through the rolling hills of the interior, passing through Sao Bras de Alportel and the Serra do Caldeirao. It provides an alternative to the longer coastal route via the A22 and A2 for drivers heading north from the central Algarve. The IC4 is a single carriageway for much of its length and passes through some of the most sparsely populated parts of the Algarve interior. Journey times to Lisbon via this route are approximately three hours.
