Largo da Se, Faro

Street guide, Algarve News

Largo da Se is the main square within Faro's old walled town (Cidade Velha), dominated by the cathedral (Se) on its eastern side. The square is paved and lined with orange trees, with the Bishop's Palace and the municipal museum (in the former convent) facing each other across the open space. This is the quietest and most historically atmospheric area of Faro, sheltered within medieval walls that survived the 1755 earthquake better than the city beyond. The Arco da Vila provides the main entrance from outside. The square is used for occasional concerts and cultural events, and several restaurants have outdoor seating.
